The Faros 2026 Report covers all engineering. But for frontend teams, the implications are distinct — because the bugs that AI coding tools introduce in the frontend have a specific character, and the tools that surface them need to match.
What Frontend AI Bugs Look Like
Backend AI bugs tend to be logic errors — wrong calculations, missing validations, incorrect data transformations. They surface in logs, monitoring, and error tracking.

Rendering Failures from Unexpected Data
The most common AI-generated frontend bug: the component receives data that doesn't match what the AI assumed it would receive. The component crashes or renders incorrectly. The error message is either generic (TypeError: Cannot read property 'map' of null) or absent (blank screen, no error at all).
To diagnose this, you need to know what data the component actually received — which means you need the API response body, not just the status code.
State Management Failures
AI-generated state management code often works for the primary flows and fails on edge cases. The component assumes state was set in a previous step. If the user navigated differently, the state is missing. The page renders incorrectly or throws.
Diagnosing this requires knowing the component's actual state at the moment of failure — not a guess.
CSS/DOM Rendering Regressions
AI-generated CSS and component structures sometimes conflict with existing styles or DOM expectations. The issue appears visually but doesn't throw an error. Session replay captures the visual, but doesn't help with the root cause.
What Frontend Teams Need From Bug Reports
For backend bugs, console logs and error messages are usually enough to diagnose. For frontend bugs, you need more:
The actual DOM state: Not a screenshot — the actual DOM tree, inspectable in DevTools. Component props, computed styles, rendered output. This is what a page state snapshot provides: the developer opens it locally and inspects it exactly as they would inspect a live page.
The API response that caused the rendering failure: Full response body, not just status code. The blank screen caused by null instead of [] is only diagnosable if you can see the response body. A screenshot doesn't contain that information.
The JS error with component context: Which component, which props, which hook was called, which line errored. Stack trace alone isn't enough — you need the component tree at the time of the error.
The Review Gap and Frontend Teams
The 31% increase in code merged without review is particularly impactful for frontend code. Frontend code review is already harder than backend review — the reviewer can't run the code and click through the app, so subtle rendering and state errors often make it through review undetected.
With review declining 31%, more frontend code is reaching production without any review at all. The quality gate moves from code review to production bug capture — and that capture needs to be rich.
Practical Steps for Frontend Teams
- Capture page state on every bug report — not just a screenshot. The DOM at the moment of failure is the primary diagnostic for most frontend bugs.
- Capture full API payloads — rendering failures almost always originate in the data the component received. You need the full response body to diagnose them.
- Connect the error trace — user action → API call → component render → JS error. Frontend bugs are chains, not isolated events.
- Route bugs to the right frontend developer automatically — not to a general queue that creates triage overhead.
With bugs per developer up 54%, frontend teams that invest in richer capture infrastructure will maintain shipping velocity. Those that don't will find their AI gains offset by investigation overhead.
